Common Q&A:

Can I really do this??
YES!

Where is it taught?
At the Springfield Karate and Fitness Center located at 761 S. Durkin Dr. (behind the Trading Post & Palermo’s Restaurant), Springfield, IL 217-726-8893

Who teaches the classes?
Individual instructors design their classes to offer a variety of challenging workouts. Head instructor, Sandy Dennis, has been training in karate and fitness for over thirty years.

How are classes structured?
Classes will start with a good warm-up so your muscles can stretch and contract more fully increasing blood flow and jump start your metabolism. With warmed muscles, you will be less likely to have fatigue-causing lactic acid buildup in your muscles. The rest of the class will include a Cardio Kickboxing Circuit consisting of a combination of martial arts’ punches, kicks and strikes. Most classes will incorporate the use of an exercise ball, dumbbells, a step or other exercise props. All classes will end with a cool down and controlled breathing exercises. We incorporate muscle confusion by changing the routines.

Do I need to be in good shape to get started?

Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced participant our classes are designed to offer a challenging workout at any fitness level and age. While you are having fun and burning calories our staff is monitoring your form and technique.

Can I get hurt?

There is always a real risk of injury in any physical activity. However, here are SIMPLE RULES to follow:
•Always warm-up before you begin any workout and cool down when you end your routine.
•Always report any injuries or illness to the instructor & inform the instructors of any pre-existing medical conditions.
•Pace yourself; always train within your limitations.
•If you experience extended or extreme pain in your muscles or joints, STOP and see your doctor.
•Drink plenty of fluids throughout your workout & exercise safely and let common sense be your guide.

Do I need special equipment?

•Wear light and cool clothing in the heat and removable layers when there’s a chill in the air. Clean tennis shoes that you do not wear outside. Bag gloves that protect the hand and wrist. We sell a selection of gloves & have some to borrow for your 1st class.
